Group A also finished hours earlier as Netherlands and Senegal awaiting to know who are they facing in the round of 16.
Summary of group B
- Pulisic scored only goal against Iran
- Rashford and Foden dominated Wales
- First pairs of Round of 16 set as group A and group B concluded
Iran 0-1 United States
It’s the Captain America, Christian Pulisic who was decisive with the only goal to beat Iran and sealed USA’s place in the next round.
Iran vs USA was more than a World Cup game for many reasons, among which was the long-strained relationship between the two countries.
It was talked about dominantly, just not totally about Football perspective.
But when the whistle was blown, everything stepped aside for football to talk. USA’s superiority was abundantly clear as they know, only a victory could help them progress.
Carlos Queiroz’s side did at least manage a shot after the break, but the USA had the right men and the right moments.
Milan’s Sergino Dest headed Juventus’ McKennie’s long pass in the danger zone, only for Pulisic to tap home while colliding with Beiranvand.
Pulisic was forced off and subbed after the break.
Pulisic gave Alireza Beiranvand no chance 10 minutes later, though.
Timothy Weah put the ball in the back of Iran’s net, but ruled out for offside.
Iran’s attempts for an equaliser was not enough, with Mehdi Taremi and Morteza Pouraliganji tirelessly run and created chances for their side.
1-0 was the final score with Pulisic involved in both goals for USA so far, only the State’s legend Landon Donovan had more (3 goals) since 1966.

Gareth Southgate started Phil Foden who had been left out of the goalles draw against USA, and the Man City’s man did not disappoint.
Foden won the free-kick for Rashford to break the deadlock in the 50th minute, before extending the lead himself.
Just a minute later, Marcus Rashford doubled his account to conclude the game and eliminated uninspiring Wales from group B.
Rashford is the first Man United player to score three goals at a major tournament for Three Lions since Bobby Charlton at the 1966 World Cup.
Gareth Bale had carried Wales for a long time, but he just could not deliver through out the game and had the fewest touch.
The 33-year-old was again largely a passenger in the Middle East against England, managing just four passes and seven touches – both the fewest of any player to start.
