Read World Cup 2022 Highlights as USA and Wales battled in the 1-1 draw in their opener of Group B, at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.
Game Highlights
Former Ballon d’Or Winner George Weah must be very proud, as his sone, Timothy Weah scored a classy goal in the 36th minute to give the US the lead at half-time.
However, Gareth Bale struck from the penalty spot late in the second half to earn Wales an important point.
USA was the better side as their two wings were sublime and the tensity level of pressing was impressive. It’s hard to see either Gareth Bale or Aaron Ramsey could possess the ball for more than one minute.
Gregg Berhalter’s side continued to look the more dangerous of the two and opened the scoring late in the first half.
More highlights here:
It was a smooth counter-attack, with Pulisic played behind the defense and poked a smart through ball for Weah to cleverly finish off.
The physical play continued after the goal, with Bale and Chris Mepham seeing yellow shortly before half-time for fouls on Yunus Musah and Pulisic, respectively.
But just as all hope looked to have disappeared for Wales as the US headed for a massive win to begin the World Cup, Bale was clumsily brought down by Walker Zimmerman in the US box.
Red Dragon’s skipper did not miss the chance to score his nation’s first goal in the World Cup, in their first World Cup match since 1958.
Group B after two games
While England stands firmly on top with 3 points against Iran, Wales and USA are currently level on 1 points.
Both USA and Wales must beat England, or at least get one point for a hope to survive the group stage.
Meanwhile in Group A, late goals from Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen gave Holland a 2-0 win over Senegal at the Al Thumama Stadium.
Holland’s win puts Louis van Gaal’s team joint top of the group with Ecuador, who beat Qatar 2-0 on Sunday.
