Chilwell’s hamstring haunted him
The London club beat Zagreb 2-1 to finish Champions League’s Group E as first place. However, their full-back Ben Chilwell could not celebrate as he left the stadium on clutches.
Chilwell was expected to compete for the starting XI of Three Lions in Qatar, but the hamstring injury may oppose this.
Manager Graham Potter admitted it was not positive after the game, some sources stated that Chilwell was upset and cried in the changing room after the game.
World Cup is only 18 days away from kicking off, this will only bring headaches to Gareth Southgate, who has seen Kyle Walker temporarily out after surgery, Reece James and Wesley Fofana also running out time before being named in England’s squad on 10th November.
Chilwell’s teammate Reece James suffered a knee injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Milan, also in the Champions League.
Southgate has to start considering alternatives to Chilwell at left-back for this coming squad. Some names may have already been in his mind now, as the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Sessegnon both makde two appereances for England in 2022.
