Cristiano Ronaldo and his last dance
Portugal will be making their eighth appearance in the World Cup in Qatar and coach Fernando Santos will hope that his team can live up to the expectations.
Portugal’s hopes rest once again on the shoulders of their GOAT: Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United’s superstar is the nation’s multi-record holders, but has been out of form for months and is 37 of age.
The player with the most international goals in men’s football will look to further add to his tally in Qatar and guide his nation to the ultimate prize in international football.

He will be ably supported by players such as Joao Felix and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, with Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto both ruled out due to injury.
Notable absentees
Portugal were dealt a major blow when Liverpool star Diogo Jota was ruled out of the tournament in Qatar after picking up a calf injury in the 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester City.
Andre Silva and Goncalo Ramos have made the cut, but there is no room for Goncalo Guedes, who misses out altogether. Meanwhile, Renato Sanches, who was in his peak form during Euro 2016 and Euro 2020, has failed to make the list.
He is struggling for minutes at PSG after joining them in the summer and has missed out on making the cut as a result.
The preferred three should be Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Neves and Bernardo Silva. But if Santos wants to mix things up in the middle, he has plenty of assuring options.
The versatile attacker would likely have started alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva up top, but will be forced to watch on from afar instead.
