Despite the long absences, both veteran defenders have been named in Luis Enrique’s 55 man-preliminary World Cup squad. There are hope for the pair to be included so as to bring experiences to a pretty young squad that Spain has.
According Madrid-based outlet Marca, neither player is to make the final cut. If it has been obvious for Pique, who has seen his performance disapointing lately, Ramos has had impressive form since featuring for Paris Saint-Germain.
With him in the squad, PSG has gone under 29 consecutive matches without defeat since his arrival in Paris.
Ramos becomes the player with the longest unbeaten streak for Paris Saint-Germain.
Last time in Euro 2021, Spain’s defence was led by Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta, who played a key role as La Roja got as far as the semifinals.
This time, Spain’s manager Luis Enrique seems to be prioritizing the likes of Eric Garcia, Aymeric Laporte, Inigo Martinez and Pau Torres – with the former two most likely to start.
