Game highlights
The first half was not without actions, but surely without any goal.
Ronaldo was denied by Lawrence Ati-Zigi after a heavy first touch and headed wide from the best of Portugal’s limited first-half chances, before having a goal ruled out himself for foul.
After a goalless first half, that second 45 minutes was some of the best entertainment we’ve had so far at this World Cup.
Mohammed Salisu’s challenge on Ronaldo handed Portugal a penalty, and Ronaldo stepped up to do his usual job and scored the opening goal.
Ghana hit back through Andre Ayew in the 73rd minute with a sublime run and assist by Kudos, who was the best player on the pitch for Black Star.
Joao Felix raced onto Bruno Fernandes’ throughball and dinked over Ati-Zigi, before Leao — on the field for just 45 seconds — curled in a delightful third for Fernando Santos’ side.
However, Joao Felix fired Portugal back in front and substitute Rafael Leao added a third in the matter of minutes.
Osman Bukari lighted hopes for Ghana with his header to pull one back 2-3 in the 89th minute. The player also made himself a meme as he hit the SIUUU – Ronaldo’s signature celebration.
La Liga’s and Athletic Club star Inaki Williams almost snuck an equaliser when he took the ball off the feet of an oblivious Diogo Costa. But at the very decisive moment, Inaki slipped.
This put everyone to hold their breaths, including Ronaldo who was subbed earlier.
Game ended with Ghana being heartbroken and Portugal wildly celebrated as we already had our best game so far of the 2022 World Cup.

Ronald making his last dances count
Portugal’s skipper has become the first player to score in five different editions of the World Cup (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022).
That was Ronaldo’s eighth World Cup goal, each of those coming in the group stage — the most of any player yet to score in the knockout stages.
Pele, Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose have all netted at four World Cups but Ronaldo is now out in front in that regard after scoring at a fifth finals.
We had Ronaldo seemingly in tears right before the Ghana game, the GOAT himself knows this time it is the the most special.
