There will be no replacement for Karim Benzema, France coach Deschamps confirms. Earlier, Manchester United’s forward Anthony Martial was among the list of candidates who can replace Benzema, however, this was never the case.
2022 Ballon d’Or winner took it to twitter to confirm the news himself and also released a statement.
One month after raising the Ballon d’Or in triumph to crown his remarkable rise, Karim Benzema’s dream of winning the World Cup is over before he has even played a game in Qatar.
He will be the first Ballon d’Or Winner ever to miss the World Cup in 44 years. The 2022 Ballon d’Or top three now only sees Kevin de Bruyne remains in the 2022 World Cup.
Earlier, Sadio Mane – Ballon d’Or runner-up also missed out due to injury.
France won the tournament four years ago without Benzema, and it seems that this time, they have to defend the trophy without the returned star.
Benzema did make his comeback during Euro 2020, however, the competition did not end well for Les Bleus as they suffered heartbroken defeat by Switzerland as early as round of 16.
